hey everyone, I know this is outside of my normal posting schedule but with the first week of school just finished I wanted to do a quick recap of my summer.
I promise this will be quick
Editing Wikipedia Articles ✍️
I didn’t talk about this in my other articles, but I felt it was an honourable mention.
I didn’t quite enjoy it, but it still benefited me.
If I didn’t go then I wouldn’t have known what I was missing out on
Building a ChatBot 🤖
I built a Chatbot, but not any chatbot. But one that would help anyone with their mental health. Now I will say I couldn’t make it pretty but it was still pretty functional.
That’s the chatbot in action. I made it using Gemmini API. It was a really fun project and taught me a lot about coding and APIs. I might even continue this project this year and turn it into something much bigger.
And if that’s the case you heard it hear first
Becoming a Swim Instructor 🏊♂️
If you followed my older newsletters you would’ve seen a lot of swimming. Well, that’s because I was swimming on average 2 and a half hours a day for 9 weeks. Some classes even were 8 hours long for two weeks straight.
Now you would think I hated it, ( I did) but it was fun at the same time.
Normally I would spend my time on my computer watching Netflix but this pushed me out of the house and forced me to stay active.
Working on Carbon Capture ☀️
While I didn’t get to mention it in my recent newsletters since I was keeping it very short, I had a call with Natalia Lever; she opened my eyes to Carbon Capture.
Natalia works with The Climate Reality Project and I had also been working on a project I wanted to show her.
We quickly talked and realized that the success rate in the Carbon Capture industry is minimal (photo below).
The number of projects has very slowly increased over the last 10 years, which is not a good sign if we want to see any results.
I had proposed a project for trucks to reduce emissions and she had told me to look further into costs and profitability, which is something I am still working on.
3 Biggest Learnings
1) If you didn’t fail, you didn’t try hard enough
Let's be honest, we all hate failing but has it ever crossed our minds that it might be the best sign we're looking for? Failing means you push through your limits. If you didn't fail you could easily have done more.
I know it's kind of scary, and let's say only 1% of people do it. Well, there's a reason 99% of others can't and won't. So push through that fear once and you're already in the top 1% of people.
2) Time is like an investment, the more you spend the more you get out of it
Most people think this goes without saying, but they don't realize how powerful it is, until they actually do it, which is why I want to bring it up.
Put it like this, I give you $1440. You won't put all of it in BTC or NVIDIA you'll probably spend it evenly among several stocks. Same thing with your time don't spend all of your 1440 minutes on the same thing. Diversify your portfolio.
3) The best way to do it better is to do it again
It is all about repetition. If you think there's something you want to get better at the best way to do it is over and over again. This can be for a sport or even learning a new language.
The biggest hurdle is understanding you will fail, and you will fail multiple times. If you didn't fail it's because you already knew how to do it and didn't even grow as a person. Failure is good and that's something I want to stress.
anyways those were the highlights but not everything I did
I also went camping and exploring a lot more
Turns out I like it a lot!
